What you need to know prior to our meeting?
What happens with the information I share with you?
Information you disclose will be kept in private, unless you give me written consent to release it to a specified health professional. Everything we discuss in our sessions together is confidential except:
Email is not entirely secure and therefore confidentiality in this format may not be protected. please keep personal email communication restricted to content related to appointment scheduling and refrain from reviewing personal information.
Unless we both use land lines, privacy or our telephone conversations cannot be protected. Text messages are not confidential
If your computer is networked with other computers ,know that unless precautions are taken, the information on your computers may be accessed by others on the network.
How long are the sessions:
Sessions are 60 minutes long, but you are free to leave anytime you want. We would normally meet weekly but this changes depending on individual situations. If you decide to stop counselling I would like to be told and, if possible, for us to have an ending session.
I will require 24 hours notice in advance if you can't make the session, or as soon as possible in exceptional circumstances. I will follow the same procedure if I need to cancel a session too. A full fee is payable if a session is cancelled without prior notice.
Are you accredited?
I am fully accredited and work within the ACA code of ethics. This is to ensure that you receive a good service and means that I am accountable to a higher national organisation and must work under their guidelines. Copies of this are available upon request. I'm also a member of Counsellors Victoria Association.
What are my commitments ?
Although I utilise email and telephone reminders, you understand that you are responsible to remember and be online for your scheduled appointment even in the event that the reminder technology fails.
You understand that online counselling may not be appropriate if you are experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts. Internet counselling is not a substitute for medical care provide by a physician.
Please communicate with me if you become dissatisfied with your treatment and I will work with you to discover what might be preventing progress, modify goals or refer you to another therapist.
You understand that you may experience changes in your personal life and relationships resulting from counselling.
Can I be friends with you?
I will not respond to invitations from clients to connect on social networking sites, nor will I respond to internet postings of my clients.
Understand that if you post or "Like" on my Facebook or Instagram business page you may imply that you are or have been a client of mine and thereby may compromise your confidentiality.
I will never acknowledge our clinical relationship without your written consent and in some case even with your permission I will preserve the nature of our working relationship.
Is outdoor counselling restricted by bad weather?
It is always the clients choice to make the ‘weather call’. We will either reschedule or grab an umbrella and soldier on. Other options include a covered space or go online.
Is outdoor counselling like a cardio session?
No. This is slow to moderate walking, not running or even fast walking. There is nothing physically strenuous about the session. If you are injured or don't feel like walking we can just sit and enjoy nature.
How do I book for an outdoor session?
First we have a free telephone or video assessment and we organise the day and time that suits best. The exact location is provided on the day of the call. I usually use Scotchman's Creek around Mount Waverley area.
Information you disclose will be kept in private, unless you give me written consent to release it to a specified health professional. Everything we discuss in our sessions together is confidential except:
- for the purposes of supervision
- where, in my opinion, there may be a danger to yourself or others
- I am legally obligated to release case notes of your sessions if they are subpoenaed by a court of law
